東京と横浜を舞台に、西洋中心主義的かつ男性中心的な視点によって形づくられた日本の近代化を、ファンタスマゴリアとして映し出す作品である。明治天皇の乗馬姿や東京競馬場の風景といったアーカイブ画像に自身のフィールド写真を重ね合わせることで、馬が近代日本の形成において権威や神性の象徴となっていく過程を浮かび上がらせる。

Centaurus on Magic Lantern is a work set in Tokyo and Yokohama that renders Japan’s modernization—constructed through Western and male-centered perspectives—as a phantasmagoria. By layering archival images such as Emperor Meiji on horseback and scenes of Tokyo Racecourse with the artist’s own field photographs, it reveals how horses became symbols of authority and divinity in the formation of modern Japan.
